Housing

Our three-room apartment became a little more crowded so when our lease was up on the apartment, we found a small two-bedroom bungalow in a residential section off the busy street where the apartment was situated.

A couple of interesting features of this small house: it was built on a concrete slab, unusual for homes in the northern climes; and the house was heated by hot water running through pipes buried in the concrete slab.

A few months after we moved into our 2-bedroom bungalow Winne became pregnant again. One morning in later February, Winnie woke me up and said it was time to go to the hospital, the baby was coming. We got to the hospital about 4:30 am and they immediately whisked Winnie away while I filled out the necessary paper work. As before, I was shown to a waiting room and about 45 minutes later the doctor walked in and told me I was the father of a baby girl. It went that quickly. Apparently, when they observed Winnie’s condition they bypassed the labor room and went directly to the delivery room. We still liked Margaret Ann as a girl’s name so there was no disagreement on names this time.
